Here are some research-related resources that can help you along.


The Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars and Fellows Program offers one-year mentored clinical research training experiences for doctoral and post-doctoral candidates in health-related professions at NIH-funded research sites, especially in Africa, Asia and South America.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Medical Research Fellows Program
enables medical, dental, and veterinary students at schools located in the U.S. to spend a year conducting basic, translational, or applied medical research at any academic or nonprofit research institution in the U.S. except federal government agencies. The goal of the program is to encourage more students to pursue academic and research careers. Veterinary students are especially encouraged to apply.

The Merial Veterinary Scholars Program exposes veterinary medical students in their first or second year of veterinary school to biomedical research and career opportunities in research.The Merial Veterinary Scholars Program culminates in the Merial-NIH National Veterinary Scholars Symposium, co-sponosred by the AAVMC, where veterinary students participating in the program gather from all over the U.S. and Canada to present their research findings and share experiences from their various programs. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Medical Research Scholars Program is a comprehensive, year-long research enrichment program designed to attract the most creative, research-oriented medical, osteopathic, dental, and veterinary students to the intramural campus of NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Scholars engage in a mentored basic, clinical, or translational research project in an area that matches their personal interests and career goals. This prestigious program is a great addition to your veterinary medical education as well as a chance to discover if a career in research is right for you.
